The Land surface process observation network (LASON) is mainly composed of stations managed by the Chinese Academy of Science. Stations with fundamental research in the field of land surface process and its interaction with the atmosphere are all welcome to join the network. Our aim is to develop a land surface process observation network that covers the semi-arid, the arid, the desert, and the Tibetan Plateau of China, develop a pool of datasets for land surface process and climate change studies, establish a platform for long-term land-atmosphere interaction studies, land surface process and climate change studies and climate impact assessment and adaptation studies, provide supporting facilities for regional joined field experiments, further our understanding on land surface processes, improve land surface models, and reveal the impact and response mechanisms of land surface process to weather and climate change.
